Perspectives and Practices of Early Childhood Teachers in Urban and Rural China on Learning Mathematics Through Play

The purpose of the research project is to further investigate how early childhood teachers in rural and urban China interpret and enact play-based pedagogy in children’s mathematical learning and to identify some key challenges that might affect their implementation on amalgamating in children’s learning and play. By investigating the pedagogical practice of these teachers concerning the play-based curriculum in mathematics, this study might contribute to extend the knowledge of professional practices to support those teachers in addressing the challenges that emerge in developing culturally appropriate pedagogy and providing suggestions for further indigenised policy refinement.
